Detailed Description
Book 1 of this WSUD policy set outlines baseline, performance and stretch WSUD targets for Landcom projects - across water conservation, stormwater pollution and post-development catchment flows. It mandates that every Landcom project develops a site specific WSUD strategy to meet these, and other targets. For details see Related Resources - below.
Book 2 of the Landcom WSUD set overviews how such targets might be achieved.
Section 2 (pages 4-11) briefly outlines water conservation options for urban developments that meet, and go beyond, BASIX requirements. Section 3 outlines how stormwater quality targets might be achieved through the use of particular ‘WSUD Devices’: bioretention trees, raingardens and swales; vegetated swales and buffer strips and wetlands. Of particular interest are the sizing and performance curves provided for each device type (for Eastern and Western Sydney).
Section 5 recommends that a development’s WSUD Strategy is undertaken at the same time as the project’s masterplan or structure plan. This allows for the opportunity to identify where WSUD design and treatment options might be integrated across the development site, including street scapes (ranging from major roads to lanes and carparks), Public Open Space, riparian and asset protection zones, and at individual private lots. Examples and photos are provided to demonstrate how WSUD can be integrated across a whole site, rather than the traditional ‘end of pipe’ or ‘instream’ approach to siting stormwater treatment and detention measures.
Book 3 provides four case studies that illustrate WSUD across the planning, implementation and operation and maintenance phases for different development contexts. Good information is provided on site-wide conceptual layout, with additional detail on planning for riparian lands and creek treatments.
